In 1918 the UFA convention amended its charter and governance in order to be able to do business. The UFHS archives holds records of the United Farmers of Alberta from its origins in 1909 as a political organization through the emergence of the UFA Co-operative Limited in the 1930s, to the present day. Records from associated organizations such as the United Farm Women of Alberta , the Farmers’ Union of Alberta , and the Wetaskiwin Co-op Refinery also form part of our collection. UFHS also holds records donated by UFA members, elected officials, and employees, as well as records transferred from UFA Co-operative Limited for permanent preservation. The UFHS archival holdings are arranged into 41 collections and fonds (meaning groups of records created by a corporate body or person). Our online database allows researchers to browse descriptions of our archival holdings and provides access to digital content. Further information will be added on an ongoing basis. How Do I Search? Permission must be granted by the UFHS if a record is to be published in any format. If the UFHS does not own the copyright, the researcher will need to secure permission from the legal copyright owner prior to publishing. In addition to copyright law, the UFHS’s donors may have placed additional use restrictions on their material upon deposit, such as additional credit requirements. If the United Farmers Historical Society has reasonably concluded that there are no copyright restrictions on a photograph their "Can I use it?" restriction status in the catalog is "unrestricted". Therefore, no written permission is required to use them. The archivist will advise you on how best to proceed with these issues.
